The Rolling Stones Program

TOUR 1966

This cover's photo is by David Bailey and Jerrold Schatzberg who did the cover's photo of US "Aftermath".

In '66 the Rolling Stones launched their tour from Australia. They played at several places in Europe in Mar., then North America and England.

There are 3 types of tour programs which are Australian, North American and English versions.

Left-handed program is North American version.

1973 TOUR IN HAWAII

The art work of this cover which impressed the image of Hawaii, is by Jim Evans. The photos in the program are by Richard Upper and sentences by John Weil.

Right after this Hawaii shows, Tokyo shows had been realized if Mick could had gotten visa to Japan. Then a program might have been the one converted its cover of the program for Hawaii shows and translated to Japanese.

The reasons I presume so are that Stones uses the photos from the previous tour for a tour program, there are few alternative choices and this program was printed by Obun Printing Co. in Japan.

1975 TOUR OF THE AMERICAS

Purposely credited OFFICIAL TOUR PROGRAM on the cover is the most unique point of this program.

At that time unofficial memorabilia were sold not only outside but also inside of venue. The state of affairs took on the movie "The Song Remains The Same" of Led Zeppelin. It oppressed Stones' earnings.

On Jun 27 at Madison Square Garden, Mick called "Popcorn! Programs! Popcorn! Programs! T-shirts!" after singing "Angie" on stage. Is it a feint or a crack?

EUROPE 1976

The photo of cover is by Hiro and the same as one of an album "Black and Blue".
Tour dates and Stones' diary barely inserted in ads smothered in pages of the program of Europe '76. It might indicate a program has become a cash cow.

The ads of Mick's beloved HOHNER harmonica and Charlie's GRETSCH were among ads of alchohol or a condom. Maybe they chose only their favorite things to put on this program.

Except a cover photo and Charlie on an ad of Gretsch, the members' photo wasn't used.
